October 1st, 1949 was the Memorial Day for the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Although the PRC was founded on September 21st, 1949, however, the grand ceremony to celebrate the forming of the Central People’s Government of the brand-new country was held at the Tian’anmen Square on October 1st,1949. On October 2nd, 1949, the new government passed the “Resolution on the National Day of the People’s Republic of China” and declared October 1st to be the Chinese National Day. Ever since 1950, every October 1st has been grandly celebrated by Chinese people.
There are several activities during the Chinese National Day celebration, they include:
Chinese military parade, usually followed by huge parades by common people to express their patriotic feelings.
Other activities such as flag-raising ceremonies, dance and music shows, firework displays as well as painting and calligraphy exhibitions are held to celebrate the National Day.
